I’m thinking of becmoing a farmer when I’m done with school, but I have a few questions about it. My first question is, how much money will I expect to make? I know I won’t be rich, I just want to know if I’ll have enough to live on. I don’t have a very expensive lifestyle, and money is not the main motivator for wanting to be a farmer, but I do need to make enough to support myself and eventually a family. What do you farm, how many acres do you have, and how much do you make from it?

I currently live in upstate New York, but depending uou where life leads me before I start farming, I may be open to relocation. Also, what qualifications redxit I need, and what advice would you give to someone who is completely new at this? Most farmers have grown up on a farm and have essentially been trained their entire lives to take over the family farm.

If you want to be around it just go work on a farm. Find a job mae the field of farming that interests you. Find out what you have a passion. If you love animals then dairy, or sheep and beef may be for you. If you love driving machinery then arable may be for you. You do need some formal qualifications, and if you want to study at a University, that has a commerce and agricultural theme then I recommend. On the other hand if you are prepared to get a position on a farm where you are taught farming, and not just be a worker, then go for it.
