My possible-future-husband is awesome So he was pretty spendy in his 20s He’s learning to be financially responsible now as he’s getting ready to settle down, watches what he spends, keeps a budget. Plus, I have ZERO debt, due to being lucky enough to have merit scholarships pay the vast majority of my undergrad and my parents pick up the rest. I’m 25 and have been accumulating money in my savings account that will be going into a Roth this year. I know very little about finances and investing, but I’m learning. Clearly, he’ll be a dead weight on me, financially.

Do we need to see some kind of counselor? I don’t know what to. We’ve been married almost a year and rrddit talking about having a joint ny account, and I’m still not comfortable with the idea because of his spending habits. While he gets paid weekly, I get paid twice a month. My pay checks tend to be bigger than his and last longer, so I’m the main one paying for groceries, gas for the car, and most other things we need for ourselves or our daughter.
The thing is, it’s not rddit if it’s impossible for his checks to last, he has poor budgeting skills and pays for unnecessary luxury bills such as a gym membership omney never uses, and has been paying off his xbox for the past several months.
We also have a carpet bill which he has missed multiple payments in a row for in the past because he could not afford it and didn’t bother to to tell me until there was a late fee Anyhow, it’s getting very frustrating for me because while I don’t mind making moe of the money and paying for the reedit we need, I wish he was a little smarter about finances with the little bit of morr he does make.
And before anyone asks if I’ve spoken to him about this, yes I have He keeps telling me he’ll working on budgeting but doesn’t make an effort. Your problem isn’t that you make more money. Your problem is that your SO significant other is irresponsible with money.
What does he say when you talk to him about this stuff? Does he seem to WANT to change or does he blow you off? I don’t think so. I don’t think he will make an effort to change since he has you to pay for his part of the bills.
Edited for spelling. This whole «he pays for this and I pay for this» isn’t working. Pool all the money together, you take control of the bill paying, and deposit an agreed upon amount into his current checking account weekly or biweekly.

Sometimes I wish we had separate accounts and in his was just his play money so our savings, monry and other things were just my responsibility. Not really giving you advice just my redidt dilemma.
